I wash off the metal debris from my suction screen in the drained hydraulic oil pan. Low Temperature Flow Hy-Gard and Low Viscosity Hy-Gard are checked for proper viscosities using the slow-cool fluidity test in addition to industry-standard tests. They aren't that strong, just shake the tube & they'll fall out. You likely have metal debris magnets inside your suction tube screen. Sure it costs more, but for changing only every 200 hours or so, it's not that big an expense. You won't get hydrostat transmission squalling & complaining when it's cold out, either. Hydraulic Fluids Substitute for John Deere Hy-Gard J20D mrsilv04 1 2 Next mrsilv04 Joined Messages 9,990 Location Illinois 1 I'm getting tired of paying John Deere's prices for their Low Viscosity Hy-Gard (aka Hy-Tran) fluid, otherwise known as 'J20D'. Low-Viscosity Hy-Gard has an ISO 32 Viscosity Grade. Low-Viscosity Hy-Gard is compatible with hydrostatic fluid and can be added to systems which contain hydrostatic fluid. This is no different than a multi-vis engine oil, in this respect. Low-Viscosity Hy-Gard replaces John Deere All-Weather Hydrostatic Fluid and should be used as a direct replacement for all applications recommending hydrostatic fluid. You just need to be sure to change it when you should, since it has viscosity index improvers that shear down over time (normal vis does not). Low-Viscosity Hy-Gard replaces the John Deere All-Weather Hydrostatic Fluid and should be used as a direct replacement for all applications recommending hydrostatic fluid. I find Lo Vis performs better in all conditions - it flows faster in all hydraulic circuits. Any one know of a substitute for this, from someone like Shell or Mystik D Don Stefanik Joined Messages 573 Location Forest On 2 What other suppliers do you use. But the tractor must have been factory filled with regular vis (Georgia JD plant), because when I changed it 50 hour maintenance last year the transmission really quieted down.ĭo you have something really unique on your tractor like a Limited Slip clutch pack or something? In fact, my manual says Lo Vis is 'preferred' over regular vis. ![]() John Deere J20D Low Viscosity HY-GARD transmission and hydraulic oil may be. ![]() My JD manuals have never mentioned not mixing HyGard & Lo Vis HyGard, including my latest tractor.
