We have Cambodians, Loatians and the Vietnamese and I don't think any of them like one another as a group. After the young guys left, he told me that I should stay away from the younger Vietnamese because they were all in gangs and liked to shoot people but that anyone that was considered his friend, such a me, would be all right because they respected and even feared him. I was playing one of them and while we were playing, several young Vietnamese guys (mid to late teens) came up to him and they had a brief conversation in Vietnamese. They were all in their late 20's or early 30's. ![]() We had 3 Vietnamese guys that used to love to play 9b for money. They tried to open another one and the city council refused to give them a license. We had a pretty big Vietnamese pool hall where I live and it got so roudy the police finally closed it down. I tried to tell the guy I was playing that he could play on heated 10' tables for less money at College Billiards, but I think they like having their own space and they probably gamble it up big sometimes. They seemed a little excited to have a white guy who actually can play billiards come in. I played some three cushion in San Diego at a place that charged 6-8 bucks an hour to play on a 8' billiards table with slow cloth. I've been in some other Asian pool halls and noticed that they charge higher rates, usually play on smaller tables with crappy cloth, and Asian pool halls seem to have 99+% Asian players. I tried to drop in and check out a Vietnamese pool hall in San Jose, CA but the local gangbangers in there didn't look happy (only time in my life a room actually stopped when I walked in) and the equipment was crap so I left. I've been to about 50 different Vietnamese restauraunts- I like it much better than Chinese food. There's a Vietnamese place in San Diego (Saigon)that offers chicken curry with a baguette, for example. I've heard that the word "pho",the beef noodle soup so popular at Viet restaurants, comes from the term "pot de feux". Vietnamese restaurants still have some french influences though, like espresso drinks. The French had their hand in Viet affairs for a long time but after they got beat up and had to leave the country, I think their influence began to wane. I think only older Vietnamese would have much chance of speaking French. I wash off the metal debris from my suction screen in the drained hydraulic oil pan. Low Temperature Flow Hy-Gard and Low Viscosity Hy-Gard are checked for proper viscosities using the slow-cool fluidity test in addition to industry-standard tests. They aren't that strong, just shake the tube & they'll fall out. You likely have metal debris magnets inside your suction tube screen. Sure it costs more, but for changing only every 200 hours or so, it's not that big an expense. You won't get hydrostat transmission squalling & complaining when it's cold out, either. You can also, for example, take the first letter of every word from a longer phrase that you know well: skwklbfhkskppp (the Soft kitty song lyrics). For example, you can make a safer password from the quick brown fox… sentence: thequibrofoxjumovethelazdog (although it still contains several dictionary words, which is not optimal). For example, kapaċi niekol ħġieġ għax ma tweġġanix could be considered a very strong password.Īnother interesting technique for creating secure passwords is using just the first couple of letters from each word to form a long password that is based on a real sentence. Those who know obscure languages have it even easier because most dictionary attacks are based on English vocabulary and several other popular world languages. For example, you can use a passphrase such as bargle zaws gubble meh brudda dulgly. Luckily, dictionary attacks are also very easy to avoid if you use fake words that are easy to memorize because of the way they sound. On the other hand, a passphrase with exactly the same letters: vromjon tobki huhet qecar dzowyf xup selg, would be nearly impossible to crack. For example, a password the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog would be cracked by a dictionary attack almost instantly. However, there is also a cyberattack technique called dictionary attacks, which basically means password guessing based on commonly used words. If password cracking were only based on the brute-force method (trying every single possible combination), password length would be the best way to practically make attacks impossible. You can clearly see, that it’s the length of the password that really matters, not the complexity. Therefore, adding just one lowercase character to a lowercase password increases its complexity not three but 26 times. But a two-letter password based on just lowercase characters has 262 = 676 entropy. For a one-letter password, this means that adding the extra characters increases the complexity threefold. With special characters, it depends on which characters are allowed, but let us say it becomes 70. ![]() If you add uppercase characters and digits, it becomes 62. If you use only lowercase characters, L=26. The formula for password entropy is log2(RL), where R is the number of unique characters and L is the length of the password. On the other hand, if you enter a 16-character password that uses only lowercase letters, the result is 224 million years. If you enter an 8-character password with numbers, uppercase/lowercase, and special characters in How Secure Is My Password, it says that a computer could break your password in 9 hours. Several websites exist, where you can check how long it would take to break your password using a brute-force attack. It’s best to set the minimum length to at least 16 characters, allow for spaces, and introduce no length limit. However, this policy is actually quite weak and should not be recommended. For example, a complex password may be required to contain at least 8 characters, uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. The most common password policy enforced by administrators, both in the case of web applications as well as other systems, is a length and complexity policy. ![]() Here’s how you can make sure that sensitive data in your web application is not compromised by malicious hackers due to insecure user passwords. There are several ways to increase password security but they are often not adopted by users and administrators. Weak passwords and password reuse are still some of the most serious concerns for cybersecurity. The ssty feature returns a list of alternate glyphs to be used in superscript or subscript circumstances: the first glyph in the set should be for first-level sub/superscripts, and the second glyph for second-level sub/superscripts. Sub B from Īgain, this is the sort of thing your font editor might do for you automatically (this is why we use computers, after all).Īnother use of this substitution comes in mathematics handling. The idea behind this feature is that a user selects a glyph, and the design software asks the shaping engine to return the set of all possible glyphs that the user might want to use instead of that glyph - all the different swash, titling, small capitals or other variants: One such feature is aalt, “access all alternates”, which is used by the “glyph palette” window in various pieces of design software. This substitution is designed for features where the shaping engine is expected to pass a set of glyphs to the user interface, so that the user can choose which one they want. On the face of it, this doesn’t make much sense - how can the engine choose which “one out of the set” it should substitute? Well, the answer is: it doesn’t. Alternate substitutionĪfter one-to-many, we have what OpenType calls “one from many” that is, one glyph can be substituted by one out of a set of glyphs. With this rule applied, we now no longer need to deal with zain as a special case - any future rule which applies to reh will deal correctly with the zain situation as well, so you have fewer “letters” to think about. For example, we can provide the glyph ز (zain) by having an empty zain-ar glyph mapped to codepoint U+0632, but in our ccmp feature do this: To do this, you would add empty glyphs to the font so that the Unicode codepoints can be mapped properly, but have the outline provided by other glyphs substituted in the ccmp (glyph composition and decomposition feature). This allows you to reposition the dots independently of the base characters, and it can reduce the number of glyphs that you need to design and write rules for, as you only need to draw and engineer the “skeleton” form for each character. In fact, when engineering Arabic fonts, it can be extremely useful to separate the dots ( nukta) from the base glyphs ( rasm). This tells the shaper to split up final alif madda into two glyphs you have the final form of alif, and so long as your madda mark is correctly positioned, you are essentially synthesizing a new glyph out of the two others. The possible syntaxes for a single substitution are: Arabic joining is another example: the shaper will automatically turn on the fina feature for the final glyph in a conjoined form, but we need to tell it which substitution to make. A good example of this is small capitals: when your small capitals feature is turned on, you substitute “A” by “A.sc”, “B” by “B.sc” and so on. ![]() The simplest type of substitution feature available in the GSUB table is a single, one-to-one substitution: when the feature is turned on, one glyph becomes another glyph. In the next chapter, we’ll look at things the other way around - given something we want to do with a script, how can we get OpenType to do it? But to get to that stage, we need to be familiar with the possibilities that we have at our disposal. ![]() In this chapter, we’ll examine each of these types of rule, by taking examples of how they can be used to layout global scripts. There are several different types of rule, which instruct the shaper to perform the substitution or positioning in subtly different ways. We do this by writing collections of rules (called lookups). Using hb-shape to check positioning rulesĪs we have seen, OpenType Layout involves first substituting glyphs to rewrite the input stream, and then positioning glyphs to put them in the right place.Contextual and chaining contextual positioning.Reverse chained contextual substitution. |
